Oh Little Fire
The best new thing I've heard lately is Sarah Harmer's 2010 disc "Oh Little Fire." At the risk of offending my wife's preference for her original "You Were Here", I'm of the opinion that it's her best work to date. The songs are catching and lyrically interesting, the production is smooth but not overdone, and the feel really suits my disposition these days. Also, the duet with Neko Case scores high points. I'm not sure any track is as sublime as "Lodestar" from "You Were Here" or "Dandelions in Bullet Holes" from "All Our Names", but the album as a whole is more consistently enjoyable, for me, than either of those two discs. Recommended!
